FlowWest is proud to sponsor the upcoming Data for Lunch virtual event hosted by the California Water Data Consortium on May 7 from 12–1PM. The session, titled Sharing Data for Drought Resilience, will explore how we can harness open, accessible water data to improve our collective ability to understand, plan for, and respond to drought in California.

FlowWest team member Ashley Vizek will be presenting alongside a team of graduate students from the UC Santa Barbara Bren School’s Master of Environmental Data Science program. This collaboration is part of a multi-year effort to support more usable and integrated urban water data systems that inform drought resilience strategies.
💧 A Multi-Year Collaboration
Since 2022, FlowWest has worked with the California Water Data Consortium to improve how urban water data is reported, accessed, and used. This work has focused on:
Identifying key challenges in water reporting
Developing targeted recommendations
Improving how data is published and shared across agencies and platforms
In 2024, our efforts centered on bringing together datasets from disparate sources to better communicate drought conditions and water availability. As part of this, FlowWest supported a proposal to bring in Bren School students to test the usability of these integrated datasets—ensuring our work translates into meaningful tools for practitioners and the public.
The 2025 project phase continues to build on this foundation, with students exploring ways to enhance the accessibility and real-world value of California’s water data ecosystem.
👥 Join Us
We’re excited to be part of this conversation about building more resilient, informed water systems—and to share the stage with talented student collaborators and dedicated water data leaders. We hope you’ll join us on May 7 at noon to learn more about the future of data-driven drought resilience in California.
