In early August, FlowWest was honored to participate in the American Fisheries Society (AFS) Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas with more than 1,140 participants representing 50 states and 15 countries. The representatives of our team that participated in the week were Jordan Hoang, Senior Software Developer, Wille Whitfield, Software Developer, and Dr. Mark Tompkins, Partner and Principal Geomorphologist, who met our colleagues and shared our works and latest innovations in fisheries science and technology.
Jordan Presents:DataTackle in Action
One of the most notable talks at the conference was Jordan speaking about DataTackle, a field-to-cloud tablet application to support fish monitoring programs. Jordan discussed the way DataTackle simplifies field data collection, lessens mistakes and enhances decision-making in fisheries monitoring programs. The presentation formed interesting debates regarding how DataTackle and other tools can be used to aid fish monitoring activities in the country.
In case you missed the talk of Jordan, or any of the other brilliant talks and posters--you can watch the recordings in the AFS 2025 Digital Library. All you have to do is to log in here and then to click digital library.
FlowWest Booth: Displaying DataTackle.
The FlowWest booth was a conversation and demonstration center. Willie and Jordan provided live demos of DataTackle so that the attendees could see firsthand how the field-to-cloud data collection platform supports fish monitoring programs. The team made contacts with researchers, professionals, and students who were interested in understanding how the new technologies can assist in their work.
Looking Ahead
Meetings such as the AFS is a reminder of the amazing fraternity of professionals working towards the future of fisheries science. FlowWest takes pride in our contribution both in our research and our tools of technology. Thanks so much to AFS and to all who visited our booth, attended the talk given by Jordan, and met us in San Antonio.
We hope to keep these discussions and collaborations going all year round--and of course, to reunite with all of you next time at an AFS event!
