Restoration Engineer

We are seeking to hire a full-time Restoration Engineer to join our civil engineering team working on river and floodplain restoration projects throughout California. This candidate would be expected to perform engineering design and analysis for habitat restoration, fish passage, and general river, floodplain, wetland, and watershed-related projects.

FlowWest staff are currently working remotely with the option of either a full time or part time office-based work schedule out of our Oakland office. Candidates who are located within driving distance of our Oakland office are preferred.  Highly qualified candidates located elsewhere in the Pacific Time Zone will be considered.

Required skills/attributes:

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and ability to manage junior staff in design tasks such as design drawing production, surface creation, and construction quantity estimating.
  • Ability to manage projects and tasks and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams
  • 2-5 years of experience in public works or engineering consulting
  • A collaborative and respectful communication style and desire to work with diverse teams

Desired skills/attributes:

  • Registered Civil Engineer in California
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
  • Professional experience including:
  1. Preparing construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and reports
  2. Preparing and monitoring scopes of work, project schedules, and budgets
  3. Conducting field surveys, including use of RTK and Total Station
  4. HEC-RAS or similar hydraulic modeling software
  5. Fish passage or stream restoration design
  6. Strong client management and communication
