FlowWest Welcomes Michael MacWilliams

Oakland, CA / FlowWest / 02/12/24 — FlowWest is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Michael MacWilliams PhD, PE to our team as a partner and Principal Engineer. Dr. MacWilliams expands FlowWest’s capabilities into new areas including three-dimensional hydrodynamic and sediment transport modeling, sea level rise planning, and coastal and marsh restoration. He will extend FlowWest’s reach in San Francisco Bay and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta with new capabilities and clients. 

Stand Out Experience with the Bay-Delta

Dr. MacWilliams has more than 23 years of experience leading technical and engineering studies in the fields of hydrology, hydraulics, sediment transport, river channel and floodplain restoration, levees and shoreline protection, estuarine physics, and fisheries. Dr. MacWilliams is a licensed Professional Engineer in California, Oregon, Maryland, and North Carolina. He is the primary developer of the UnTRIM San Francisco Bay-Delta model, and has extensive expertise in hydrodynamic and sediment transport modeling in San Francisco Bay and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. He is a recipient of the Lorenz G. Straub Award (2004) and the Hugo B. Fischer Award (2023).

Dr. MacWilliams was the President and Founder of Delta Modeling Associates, Inc, which was acquired by Anchor QEA in 2015. “I appreciate the opportunities that Anchor QEA has provided over the past 9 years to work on projects across the country, while also growing Anchor QEA’s water resources practice in California.” said Dr. MacWilliams. “FlowWest has established a reputation as one of the most innovative and respected water resource companies in California. Dr. MacWilliams’ unique modeling background creates exciting new synergy with FlowWest’s water resources management and aquatic ecosystem restoration practice.
